How ClearAdvantage Works

ClearAdvantage is a water-free, solid-state cleaning system that keeps solar panels free of dust and particulate soiling — no brushes, no moving parts, no water. It’s built on an Electrodynamic Dust Shield (EDS) licensed from NASA, a technology with more than a decade of flight heritage keeping lunar and Mars mission hardware clear of abrasive regolith. Clear Solar is adapting it for terrestrial solar applications.

A Performance Embedded Layer, built into the glass

The system integrates a thin, transparent electrode layer directly onto the panel’s cover glass — either as an aftermarket film applied to panels already in the field, or as an original-equipment layer built in during manufacturing. Because the electrodes and coating are optically transparent, they sit in the light path without materially affecting panel transmittance or power output.

A Scalable Architecture, not just a coating

Beyond the panel-level electrode layer, ClearAdvantage is built as a full system. Unit-level controllers provide the electrical and mechanical interface to each individual panel, distributed controllers manage power delivery and communications across blocks of panels, and a central command and telemetry platform gives operators fleet-wide visibility and control. Isolation barriers, current-limiting resistors, and voltage suppression components keep the high-voltage cleaning circuit safely separated from control and communication domains.

The Result

No moving parts, no water or chemical consumables, and no abrasive contact with the glass – the three factors that typically drive cost, water usage, and long-term panel degradation in conventional cleaning. Because it runs automatically and can be cycled multiple times per day at negligible energy cost, ClearAdvantage keeps panels continuously clean rather than relying on periodic manual or robotic passes.
