Born In Space, Built For Earth
For more than two decades, NASA has matured the Electrodynamic Dust Shield (EDS) technology to protect spacecraft from the abrasive dust that threatens mission critical systems on the Moon and Mars. Clear Solar was founded to bring that same technology to Earth, and to continue pushing its limits in space. Today we work in both domains. Our EDS systems are used to protect spacecraft interfaces for NASA and our commercial space partners, Our core product, ClearAdvantage, adapts similar technology to clean solar panels, vehicle sensors, and commercial architectural glass on our own planet.
A Mission Critical Technology to Fight Dust
Dust is not a nuisance in space, it’s a primary cause of mission failure. NASA’s InSight lander lost power and ended its mission as dust steadily buried its solar panels. The Opportunity rover, after nearly 15 years of operation, went silent when a global dust storm cut off its energy supply. We work directly with NASA and space companies to integrate EDS technology with the surfaces that keep spacecraft alive: solar arrays, radiators, sensors, and other critical hardware exposed on the Moon, on Mars, and in crewed environments, so dust doesn’t get the final word.
Advanced Technology Reimagined for Earth
On Earth, dust and soiling cost solar operators billions of dollars a year in lost power output, and the tools available to fight it (water trucks, manual labor, mechanical robots) are expensive and impractical in the arid climates that need them most. Our mature EDS technology has been adapted for harsh environments on Earth into ClearAdvantage, a practical system built for the economics and operating conditions of terrestrial solar, defense, agriculture, and architectural applications. Active pilot programs are underway with customers around the world, with a growing footprint across other high-soiling markets.
Our Mission
Remove the friction between missions, operators, and the full value of the technology they depend on. In space, that means keeping critical hardware clear so a mission’s success doesn’t come down to a layer of dust. On Earth, it means every gallon of water saved, every hour of labor avoided, and every point of soiling loss recovered is more usable energy, safer operations, and lower operating costs.
